MUMBAI: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Rowdy Rathod, to be directed by Prabhu Deva, will go on the floors in July.

The film is the Hindi remake of Ravi Teja‘s mass entertainer, Vikramarkudu. The Telugu film was remade in Tamil as Siruthai with Karthi in the lead.

The film revolves around a small-time thief (Ravi Teja) who falls in love with Neeraja. One day, a girl turns up and claims him to be her father. Though the girl bothers the hero initially, he later finds truth behind the girl‘s statement that in fact she is the daughter of police officer Vikram Singh Rathod (again Ravi Teja).

This is for the first time that Bhansali has delved into making an action film. And with the director around, he plans to break the stereotypical boundaries of the action genre by incorporating his choreographic skills into action sequences in the film.

The film has Akshay Kumar playing the title role with Sonakshi Sinha playing the female lead.
