IIFA ties up with UNEP on World Environment Day

MUMBAI: Having undertaken several initiatives over the years to curb issues that threaten the climate and take its commitment forward to a greener planet, IIFA has tied up with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

The initiative comes days ahead of the Videocon d2h IIFA Weekend and Floriana IIFA Awards in Toronto scheduled on 23 June.

World Environment Day (WED), celebrated every year on 5 June, is a worldwide celebration of pro-environment activities.

Initiated in 1972 by UNEP, World Environment Day has grown into thelargest medium of raising awareness about the environment and theissues that put it at risk.

In 2007, IIFA launched the concept of a‘Green Carpet‘, replacing the traditional red carpet rolled out at allaward shows, as a symbol of its crusade against global warming.

Friends of IIFA, Priyanka Chopra and Rahul Bose, have extended their support toward this noble cause. While Chopra has pledged to plant one tree for every activity registered in her name, Bose has raised the stakes by pledging to plant two trees for every activity registered in his name.
