Lahore director to make Sanjay Gandhi biopic

MUMBAI: Filmmakers being inspired by politicians and their lives to make films is not new. Following his colleagues in the film industry, Lahore director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has decided to make a film on Sanjay Gandhi.

The untitled film will follow Chauhan‘s forthcoming sci fi project Anahaat that is in the final stages of shooting.

"Sanjay Gandhi was a very controversial figure. I always wanted to portray his life on the big screen, but I am going to show the kind of person he was rather than venturing into the controversies surrounding his death," the director has been quoted to have said.

Chauhan said Sanjay Gandhi‘s ideologies and his vision about India have always impressed him. Since the film deals with a noted personality and is a serious subject, Chauhan has roped in writers who are well-versed with Indian politics.

Chauhan‘s Lahore that released last year was well-acclaimed by critics and won several awards in international circuits.

Besides, the film received two awards at the 57th National Film Awards - Chauhan bagged the Indira Gandhi Award for best debut film of a director while Farooque Shaikh won award in the best supporting actor category.
