Old film buffs can look forward to unwinding this weekend with a classic from the Bimal Roy archives on Star Gold.
Do Bigha Zamin ranks among Roy's best and deals with the trauma of the dispossessed. Balraj Sahni portrays the small farmer threatened with the loss of his land by the local zamindar. Senstively directed, the film takes the viewer through his travails in the city of joy, Kolkata, where he attempts several odd jobs to repay his old debts.
The film focusses on the adjustments rural folk have to make in the city, as well as the farmer's moral dilemma. Salil Chaudhary's music is a treat for jaded ears.
Tune in to Star Gold on Saturday at 7 pm.
